Here is a great post by PrestaShop about optimizing online store home page for conversion. Before you select colors, fonts and images ask yourself the following questions: what information is essential for my customers and where and how can to position this information.
- Search bar – Make products easier to find
- Shopping cart or basket – Use emotional design techniques to transform the shopping experience
- Slider – Ideally a slider should include one fixed slide, and never more than three rotating slides.
- Menu – Try to keep the menu items as short as possible: two words are fine, but one is better.
- Filter options – Let customers filter by size, color, season, occasion, use, or even cooking technique, among other things
- Products on the homepage – Display the most interesting products on your homepage. It is important to tell customers why the product is on the homepage.
- Categories – Continuing with the two points of entry or double entry strategy, include a block that shows off your categories with images or icons.
- Social Media – include a section or several sections where customers can verify that you can be trusted
- Footer – for contact options and links to your social media, terms and conditions, shipping and returns.
