I think X-cart Store Manager from eMagicOne.com is the first upgrade you want for your store. If you have more than 50 products it will make product management tasks so much easier, you will not believe how you managed without it before. License is only $149 and it will pay for itself the first time you or your staff use it by saving you hundreds of hours making product management as easy as drag and drop in Excel tables.
To be clear, you do not have to have this software to manage your store but you may want to give it a try – there is a 14-days fully functional trial and installation takes 5-10 min.
Here is a short tutorial on how to install the software and a basic management task to get you started.
1) Download the software: http://xcart-manager.com/free-download
2) Enter your name and email to complete installation
3) Open the software, go to Tools -> Connection Wizard
4) Enter FTP login (from your hosting company welcome email. If you do not have that information, contact your hosting company)
Note 1: “httpdocs” is a store folder for most Finestshops managed stores. If you have your store in a different folder, it maybe “httpdocs/xcart” or “httpdocs/store” or if you are hosting with somebody else, your root directory maybe different (ex: “public_html”). If you are not sure, contact your host.
Note 2: If you have PCI compliant setup on your server and did not arrange for a private FTP connection from your office IP, plain FTP login will not and you will need to click on “Advanced settings” and change protocol to “SFTP” and port to “22”. See screen shot above.
Verify FTP connection and if there are no errors, click [Next]
5) Enter your “Store URL”: http://yourdomain.com
Click [Next]
6) Store manager will download your categories and products and you are ready to start managing your online catalog with drag and drop speed and convenience.
There are a lot of things you can do in Store manager. For example add, remove, rearrange or edit categories.
To make changes to a category:
1) Double click on a category to get details. Make changes and click “Post Changes to Web”
2) Go to your store to verify the changes:
